The final whistle has sounded

It is with immense sadness that we learnt of the peaceful passing of Players’ Fund stalwart – HO de Villiers on Sunday 20 February 2022 at the age of 76.

HO, former Villages, Western Province and Springbok, was among the first to join Morne du Plessis in setting up and running the Chris Burger Fund in 1980 just a few years after his rugby playing career ended. HO played for South Africa in 14 test matches from 1967 to 1970. A series of severe injuries brought his brilliant career to a far-too-early close.

HO served tirelessly on the Board of the Players’ Fund, eventually retiring from active service a number of years ago. He was an a member of the Assistance Committee which looked at the needs of each of the recipients in order to improve their quality of life.

Our sincere condolences go to his wife Sandra, their children and grandchildren.

Rest in peace HO, we will miss you.
