On Sunday 27 March 2022, Players’ Fund trustee Dr Phatho Zondi, cycling enthusiast and founder of Colour Africa’s Outdoors  https://colourafricasoutdoors.com  completed her first Absa Epic Mountain Bike Stage Event. She and riding soul sister Letshego Zulu made a perfect partnership and teamed up as Team AyLeZa – named after their 3 daughters Ay(eva), Le(lethu) and Za(nesu). They were also part of a greater team of women –  #sheuntamed team sponsored by Absa.

Phatho’s beautifully written daily account of each stage was tough as they tackled the grueling trails of the Western Cape which demanded more and more of them. But these two superstars dug deep, pushed each other on one pedal stroke & “vosho” at a time, and were there for one another when the wheels literally feel off. Crossing the finish line each day became a world stage where they displayed wonderful dance moves in their “up and out there” fashion cycling attire, wearing radiant smiles, before dusting themselves off and prepared mentally for the following days brutal uphill’s, exhilarating single track, refreshingly wet water crossings and challenging distances in the saddle.

Phatho, we are so proud of what you and Letsego achieved by completing Africa’s Untamed Race like pro cyclists. We wait with bated breath to learn of the next adventure you two are planning.
